Liturgy of the Word: Acts 27:18-26.39.44; 28:1-22.7-10; Mk16:14.20
Your Eminence Cardinal, Your Excellency Apostolic Nuncio, your Excellency President of the Croatian Bishops’ Conference, brothers bishops, presbyterians and deacons, esteemed representatives of the Churches and Christian communities; the Most Reverend Metropolitan Porfirije, honoured brothers bishops Branko and Peter, pastor Ivica and protoiereus Kirko, dear brothers and sisters in Christ, our Lord!
Every year during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, we in the Zagreb Archdiocese live a greater sensitivity to each other and make considerable efforts regarding unity of Christ’s body, growing in prayer and nurturing the culture of encounter and vicinity.
I am particularly pleased that apart from the present representatives of the Churches in Croatia this year we can welcome the President of the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), His Eminence Jean-Claude Hollerich and president of Conference of European Churches (CEC), the Reverend pastor Christian Krieger and their delegations here in our Zagreb Cathedral.
In this celebration we unite ourselves with Christians worldwide, attentive to kindness inspired by the words from the Acts of the Apostles, as they are this year’s motto of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
We come before the Lord with confidence. We believe in His presence among us. We address supplications we feel so strongly to the Lord as we simultaneously confront our weaknesses and limitations.
